Palu City Explores Partnership with Japan’s IMV Corporation to Enhance Earthquake Early Warning Systems
PALU – The Palu City Government is exploring opportunities for cooperation with Japan’s International Mechanical Vibration (IMV) Corporation to strengthen disaster mitigation efforts through the development of earthquake early warning technology and seismic activity monitoring systems.
The potential collaboration was discussed during a meeting between Deputy Mayor of Palu, Imelda Liliana Muhidin, and representatives of IMV Corporation at the Deputy Mayor’s office on Monday (June 8, 2026).
IMV Corporation is a Japanese company specializing in vibration testing systems, security technologies, and the development of equipment that supports disaster mitigation. Representing IMV Corporation at the meeting were Takao Kawahira, Yasuhiro Okuda, and other members of the delegation.
The Deputy Mayor was accompanied by the Acting Head of the Palu City Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), the Acting Assistant for Economic Affairs and Development, representatives from the Environmental Agency, the Spatial Planning and Land Agency, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and other related officials.
During the meeting, both parties discussed the potential application of seismometer technology and other detection systems that could contribute to strengthening Palu’s disaster early warning capabilities.
Deputy Mayor Imelda Liliana Muhidin expressed her appreciation for IMV Corporation’s initiative and emphasized the importance of disaster mitigation technology for Palu, a city that remains vulnerable to natural hazards.
“We hope that collaboration with IMV Corporation will accelerate the strengthening of Palu’s earthquake early warning system and provide direct benefits to the safety and well-being of our residents,” she said.
In addition to enhancing early warning systems, the proposed cooperation is expected to facilitate knowledge and technology transfer to local human resources while strengthening infrastructure resilience and disaster response capacity.
The Palu City Government hopes that the discussions and initial exploration conducted during the meeting will serve as the foundation for a sustainable partnership between Palu City and IMV Corporation. Such collaboration is expected to contribute to building a safer, more resilient, and disaster-ready city in the years ahead.
